Woe is me . . .

Oh for the love of games! I came across a slightly morbid, slightly depressing, yet utterly fabulous and fun card game while at SD Comic-Con a few weeks ago: GLOOM.  Literally a new family favorite! The object is simple, pick a deranged family, curse each of its members with a series of dismal and unfortunate events and then kill them off one by one to rest in the family graveyard. The player with the most negative points or rather the saddest, most sorrowful family wins! Of course, there are many opportunities to sabotage your opponent’s families with delightful circumstances, increasing their happiness and thus making it harder for them to reach their woeful end.  My favorite aspect of the game is the opportunity for creative story telling. With each event, happy, sad or otherwise an ever-changing tale is spun detailing the circumstances of each character’s fate . . . An entertaining twist to say the least. Also, the Burtonesque style game art, unique clear card game play and ample expansion packs, including Cthulhu Gloom and Fairytale Gloom themes, are cherries on top! Hope your family enjoys it as much as mine 🙂
