Dead of Winter

In the midst of spring, I was introduced to the Dead of Winter. An odd thing to say I know, but it’s true. There I was, a survivalist in a colony amongst other survivalists, searching for and sharing resources, DOW Boxfighting off zombies, fighting the immense potential for frost bite during the harsh winter and quite frankly, in every way, fighting to stay alive . . .

Dead of Winter is a cooperative board game for 2 to 5 players by Plaid Hat Games with an overall game objective that changes each time you play. To complicate things and I think to simulate the real life stresses this setting would entail, Dead of Winter introduces a secret, not-so-cooperative game mechanic along with a constantly changing crisis to be dealt with AND a crossroads feature that stops you in your tracks and causes you or your party to make some pretty tough decisions. The result is a need to play, need to beat this, we-can-do-this, let’s play over and over again mind-set. DOW PiecesBasically, it’s super fun and totally worth buying. I have to be honest, it’s a tough game, but the occasional victory and the time spent playing with friends and family is well worth it. Plus an expansion, Dead of Winter: The Long Night is available for pre-order. For more information and to purchase your own copy, check out www.plaidhatgames.com.
